Day 1 Copper Mine & Great Salt Lake Tour

Guests will be picked up from their Salt Lake City hotels to begin this tour. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations.

Today, we will visit the Kennecott Copper Mine (also known as the Bingham Canyon Mine). Our drive will pass by beautiful mountain and lake scenery as we travel to an elevation of over 9,000 feet, where we will be able to view the gaping canyon below to truly understand its immense size. Kennecott is the largest and richest copper mine in history. The gaping hole - about a mile deep and three miles wide - can be seen from space! The trucks used at this mine are the size of two-story houses.

Afterward, we will explore the area around the Great Salt Lake, a large inland sea. Once here, we will be able to catch live sea monkeys right out of the waters. We can take a swim in a lake that has such a high content of salt, we will be able to float on our backs and never sink. We will explore the area of Saltair, where luxurious lakeside resorts provide romantic memories. After this, we will get to see the lake's Wetlands Habitats, a refuge for migratory birds, visited by millions of birds from over 250 species each year. Guests will return to their hotels to end the tour.

Utah's gorgeous capital city sits amidst the mountains of the American Southwest on the shores of the breathtaking Great Salt Lake. The city is steeped in history and architecture in addition to wondrous vistas and scenery.
