Day 1: Riga

Guests will arrive in Riga. There is optional transfer available to the hotel. Once everyone is present, there will be a welcome meeting.

Day 2: Riga (43 km)

Founded in 1201 by a German bishop, Riga is the largest of the three Baltic capitals, boasting a kaleidoscope of architectural styles. We will take a walking tour of the Old Town to see Riga Castle, the Dome Cathedral, St. Peter's Church, the Swedish Gate, the Three Brothers, the Large and Small Guilds and the Freedom Monument. In the afternoon, we can take an optional visit to Jurmala, a vibrant Latvian sea resort, famous for its wooden architecture and sandy beaches. In the evening, we will enjoy a delicious Latvian dinner at a stylish local restaurant.

    Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture.

    Riga Castle

    The Riga Castle on the banks of the River Daugava in the Latvian capital dates back to 1330, but has been added to and extensively rebuilt several times since then. Today, it is the home of the Latvian president.

    Riga Cathedral

    One of Latvia's most famous landmarks, this Medieval cathedral traces its origins to the year 1211. In addition to its facade, the church is known for its large and elaborate pipe organ that was built in 1882.

    St. Peter's Church

    This Lutheran church in the Latvian capital was built as early as the 13th century, when it was a Roman catholic cathedral. Since then, the church has been renovated and remodeled on numerous occasions.

    Swedish Gate

    Built in 1698 along the Riga Wall, the city's system of defensive fortifications, this gate was designed to provide access to the most central areas of the city from the barracks, which were located outside the walls.

    Three Brothers

    Riga's Three Brothers are a series of three houses that together offer insight to different architectural periods in the city's history. Their styles range from Renaissance to Dutch Mannerism to Baroque.

    Large Guild

    Built in the 1850s in an English Gothic style, this guild hall was designed to house the local guild of the same name. Nowadays, it houses the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.

    Small Guild

    This building in Riga was built in the 1860s in a Neo-Gothic style by the architect Johann Felsko. Today, it is used for concerts, conferences, meetings, balls, presentations and more.

    Freedom Monument

    This memorial was constructed in 1935 for the soldiers that died in Latvia's War of Independence. Each day, a vigilant honor guard stands at the monument. It is located in a plaza along Freedom Boulevard in Riga's Old Town.

Day 3: Riga - Tallinn (334 km)

Today, we will drive along the coastal highway in Estonia to the summer resort of Parnu, where we will take a short tour before continuing through the forests of northern Estonia on our way to Tallinn, arriving in the early afternoon.

Day 4: Tallinn

Tallinn holds a charming blend of medieval tranquility and modern urban life. The Old Town is busy during the summer because of its many shops, galleries, souvenir markets, outdoor cafes and restaurants. The sightseeing tour will take us around the old medieval city where we will see Toompea Castle, Dome Church, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Old Town Hall and the Great Guild Hall. In the afternoon, we will take an optional excursion to Kadriorg Park and KUMU, the new award-winning art museum. In the evening, we will have the option of enjoying a medieval dinner at a local restaurant.

    Historic Centre of Tallinn

    Tallinn's "Old Town" area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its amazing preserved centuries-old buildings and their impressive architecture. The area has become an increasingly popular tourist destination in recent years due to its beauty and ease-of-access.

    Toompea Castle

    Located on a hill overlooking the city of Tallinn, began as a medieval fortress in the 9th century. Over the years, additions and renovations were made, and today the building houses the Estonian Parliament.

    St. Mary's Cathedral

    First built by the Danes as a Roman Catholic cathedral, this church later became Lutheran in the 16th century. It was the only building in the city that survived the fire of the 17th century.

    Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

    This orthodox cathedral in Tallinn is a great example of the Russian Revival architectural style, complete with the iconic "onion domes" on its roof. It was built at the end of the 19th century.

    Old Town Hall

    As the oldest town hall in the Baltics, this historic building was built in the 13th century in the city's former market square.It was constructed in the Gothic style that dominated later-medieval architecture.

    Great Guild Hall

    This Gothic building in Old Town Tallinn served as a forum for local artisans beginning in the 14th century. It was still used for this as late as the 19th century. Today, it houses the Estonian History Museum.

    Kadriorg Park

    Named for the district of the city it is located in, this park in Tallinn is home to two palaces: the magnificent Kadriorg Palace and the Presidential Palace, where the Estonian head of state lives.

    Kumu

    The stunning architecture of the exterior of this art museum in Tallinn is sure to amaze visitors just as much as the collections and exhibits housed inside its walls, which feature prominent examples of Socialist Realism art.

Day 5: Tallinn - Helsinki (224 km)

In the morning, we can take an optional excursion to Lahemaa National Park, where we will visit Palmse Manor, a memorial to the von Pahlen family, and Sagadi Manor. The tour will end with a visit to the charming 16th century Vihula Manor and the Vodka Museum. After lunch, we will return to Tallinn, where we will take the ferry through the Finnish archipelago before arriving in Helsinki, where we will check into our hotel.

    This Estonian national park, located about 70 kilometers from the capital Tallinn, is a protected area on the country's northern Baltic coast, featuring impeccable natural scenery. It was the first national park designated under the Soviet Union.

    Palmse Manor

    This beautiful estate can be found within Estonia's Lahemaa National Park. Ownership of the estate has changed hands several times, but construction of the current building began at the end of the 17th century.

    Sagadi Manor

    This historical estate in Estonia's Lahemaa National Park features beautiful rococo and classical style architecture designed in the mid-18th century, though the grounds the estate is on have been inhabited by wealthy families since the 15th century.

    Vihula Manor

    The earliest references to this estate date back to the beginning of the 16th century. Over the years, it has turned hands between many Baltic German aristocratic families. The estatus home to the Vodka Museum.

Day 6: Helsinki

Our sightseeing tour will take us around the city's harbors, Senate Square, the Lutheran Cathedral, central Mannerheim Street, the Parliament Building, Finlandia Hall, the Sibelius Monument and the famous Church-in-the-Rock. In the afternoon, we can take an optional excursion to the Suomenlinna Fortress. The evening will offer optional Finnish dinner at Restaurant Salve.

    Senate Square

    The oldest area of the Finnish capital, Helsinki's Senate Square is bordered by the Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, University of Helsinki, and the oldest building in Helsinki, the Sederholm House, which was built in 1757.

    Helsinki Cathedral

    The Helsinki Cathedral is a Finnish landmark built in the majestic neoclassical style. Its floor plan is based on the Greek cross, with a center square and four arms. It was constructed in the middle of the 19th century.

    Mannerheim Street

    Mannerheim is the main street in central Helsinki, named after one of FInland's most renowned military leaders. The street begins in the city center and continues north, stretching out past the city limits.

    Parliament House

    The Finnish House of Parliament in Helsinki was designed by the architect Johan Sigfrid Siren and completed in 1931. It is located on a hill along Mannerheim Street. The building itself is an austere, stripped-down example of Neoclassical architecture.

    Finlandia Hall

    Designed by the architect Alvar Aalto in 1962, construction on this congress and event hall in Helsinki finished in 1971. It is a versatile venue, able to accommodate exhibitions, concerts, festivals, meetings and more.

    Sibelius Park

    This park in Helsinki is dedicated to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The most notable aspect of the park is the magnificent monument to the composer located in its center. The monument is made of over 600 steel pipes.

    Temppeliaukion Church

    Opened in 1969, this Lutheran church in Helsinki features an incredible, circular interior design, with high vaulted, curved wooden ceilings. The pipe organ that provides the church with music is also designed in a very unique fashion.

Day 7: Helsinki - St. Petersburg (383 km)

Today, we will travel from Helsinki to St. Petersburg. Shortly after crossing the border into Russia, we will stop in Vyborg, taking a short sightseeing tour of Vyborg Castle. In the late afternoon, we will arrive in St. Petersburg and check into our hotel.

    This Russian town lies north of St. Petersburg and is just across the border from Finland to the north and northwest. It is home to a famous Swedish-built medieval castle that is now a museum.

    Vyborg Castle

    This medieval fortress was built by the Swedes. The surrounding town later developed around it. Historically, the castle and surrounding lands have been held by the Russians, the Swedes and the Finnish. These days, it houses a museum.

Day 8: St. Petersburg (52 km)

In the morning, we will go sightseeing to enjoy the splendors of the city. We will visit Peter-Paul Fortress, the Winter Palace, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Church of the Bleeding Savior, Nevsky Convent and more. In the afternoon, we can take an optional excursion to Zarskoye Selo to see Catherine's Palace and the Amber Room. In the evening, we can also visit Nikolaevsky Palace to see an exciting folklore show.

    Peter and Paul Fortress

    Built towards the beginning of the 18th century, this citadel in St. Petersburg was designed under the rule of Peter the Great. Known as the "Russian Bastille," the citadel was used as a prison under the Bolsheviks in the 1920s.

    Winter Palace

    This palace in St. Petersburg served as the residence of the Russian monarchs from 1732 to 1917. Its large scale was intended to reflect the vast scope of the Russian Empire at the time of construction.

    Saint Isaac's Cathedral

    Saint Isaac's Cathedral or Isaakievskiy Sobor is the largest orthodox basilica and the fourth largest (by the volume under the cupola) cathedral in the world.

    Church of the Savior on Blood

    This famous Russian orthodox church in St. Petersburg was constructed on the same site as the fatal wounding of Alexander II. It is topped by the iconic "onion domes" that are representative of Russian orthodox church architecture.

    Nevsky Monastery

    This lovely, picturesque monastery was built in 1710 and consecrated three years later in the presence of Peter the Great. By the 20th century, the complex housed 16 churches!

    Located a short distance from St. Petersburg, this lovely Russian town is the location of the former estate of the Russian royal family, the august Catherine Palace.

    Catherine Palace

    This magnificent Rococo palace to the south of St. Petersburg was once the summer home of the Russian Imperial family. Catherine the Great commissioned the palace in 1717, desiring a summer getaway local for herself.
