Day 1 Quito

As guests arrive in Quito, they will transfer to the local hotel and have the rest of the day free to spend at their own leisure. Tonight, we will get acquainted with Ecuadorian food at one of the city's world-class restaurants.

Day 2 Quito - Galapagos Islands(1393 km)

This morning, we will embark on a journey to the Galapagos Islands. We will fly from Quito to the airport in Baltra, where we will be met by naturalist guides who will help us transfer by boat to Santa Cruz Island. Here, we will visit the Giant Tortoise Reserve and see these animals in their natural habitat. After stopping for lunch, we will continue to Puerto Ayora, the most developed town in the archipelago, where we will board a panga boat that will take us to Finch Bay, an eco-friendly resort-hotel in a private seaside location surrounded by mangrove, which will serve as our lodging for the next three nights. We will then have the rest of the day to enjoy at our own leisure.

The Galapagos Islands, part of the Republic of Ecuador, are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the equator in the Pacific Ocean surrounding the centre of the Western Hemisphere. The islands are known for their vast number of endemic species.

Day 3 Cerro Mesa Preserve - Charles Darwin Research Station

Today, we will cross Academy Bay by boat until we reach the highlands of Santa Cruz. When we arrive at Cerro Mesa, a private preservation, we will explore the natural surroundings and spectacular vistas. Then, we will continue on our walk down the path to a beautiful white sand beach, where we will enjoy lunch in the shade. In the afternoon, we will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, which will offer us insight to efforts being made by scientists, park rangers, and more to preserve this UNESCO World Heritage Site. We can also meet Diego, the world?s most famous tortoise.

Day 4 North Seymour Island

Today, we'll take a yacht called the Sea Lion to North Seymour Island, which is teeming with life! We may be able to see many of the most well-known species of the Galapagos Islands, such as swallow-tailed gulls, sea lions, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and frigate birds. After this excursion, we will return to Finch Bay for some leisure time.

Day 5 Baltra Island - Quito(1393 km)

Today, we will disembark at Baltra Island. Then, we will go to the port village to shop for souvenirs, or just relax in a café before we proceed to the airport for our flight to Quito, a historic masterpiece in the high Andes at the base of the Pichincha Volcano. When we arrive, we will transfer to a local hotel and be able to spend the remainder of the day at our own leisure.

Day 6 Quito

Today, we will explore the city of Quito, a historic masterpiece in the high Andes at the base of the Pichincha Volcano. Here, we will tour the colonial quarter, the largest and best preserved of its kind in Latin America. We will begin at Independence Plaza, flanked by the Metropolitan Church, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building, and the Archbishop's Palace. Then, we will continue to the Metropolitan Cultural Center, which features exhibits that highlight Ecuadorian culture and history. We will visit either La Compania Church or the Monastery of San Francisco. Then we will go to the Middle of the World, which marks the Equator.

The capital city of Ecuador sits on the slopes of Pichincha, an active volcano in the northern Andes Mountains. At an elevation of 9,350 feet, it is the highest capital city in the world.

Day 7 Otavalo - Papallacta(126 km)

This morning, we will tour the local market in Otavalo, one of the largest in all of South America and run by the local Otavaleno Indians. Here, we can browse and shop for various goods including hand-woven clothes, jewelry, fruits, vegetables, and more. If time permits, we will also visit a local school. Then, we will visit the surrounding towns of Cotacachi, known for its leather handicrafts, and Peguche, famous for its beautiful waterfall. In the afternoon, we will transfer to Papallacta, located in the heart of the Andes mountains. The remainder of the day will be free for us to spend at our own leisure. Alternatively, we may also take an optional tour to the regions spas and hot springs. This is where we will spend the night.

Day 8 Papallacta - Amazon Rainforest(659 km)

After breakfast, we will transfer to La Punta Ahuano on the Napo River, where we will board a canoe that will take us to our lodge in the Amazon rainforest. In the afternoon, we will visit Ahuano, where we will get the opportunity to meet a local Quechua family and learn about their way of life firsthand before returning to the hotel.

Day 9 Amazon Rainforest

This morning, we will be able to hike along the Napo River for approximately 2 hours while viewing the diverse wildlife up close. The Amazon Rainforest is the world's largest ecosystem, so we should be sure to keep an eye out for interesting flora and fauna. We will enjoy the views as we cross suspended bridges and fly through the jungle on a zip line basket ride. At the end of the hike, we will take a rafting trip on a traditional balsa log raft. We will then be able to spend the afternoon at our own leisure. It is recommended that we visit the local Butterfly Farm. This is a very active day, so we should be sure to rest well the night before. Those who participate in the rafting trip will need to wade through the water to reach the raft and will get wet during the ride. We will spend another night in the Amazon.

Day 10 Amazon Rainforest - Banos(631 km)

In the morning, we will board a canoe bound for La Punta Ahuano before driving to El Pailon del Diablo ("The Devil's Cauldron"), one of Ecuador's most beautiful waterfalls. We will continue to Banos to see the magnificent Church and Plaza. We will also get to witness a demonstration on how to make vegetable ivory, a traditional craft that utilizes palm nuts to make jewelry and animal carvings. In the late afternoon, we will check into our local hotel before having the rest of the day free to spend at our leisure.

Day 11 Hacienda La Cienega(208 km)

Today, we will visit Hacienda La Cienega, one of the oldest and most historical haciendas in the country. It provides spectacular views of Cotopaxi National Park and the local volcano in the background. If time permits, we may be able to visit a local school in Patate. After lunch, we will visit a local rose plantation to see one of Ecuador's most aromatic exports. In the evening, we will return to Quito for an evening at leisure.

Today, guests will transfer to the airport for their flights out of Ecuador. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding when to schedule flights.
