Day 1 New York-Bear Mountain State Park-New York(98 miles)

We will depart from the Port Authority bus terminal at either 8:45am or 11:15am, enveloped in the folds of the west Bank of the Hudson River, lies Bear Mountain State Park. Buses depart New York City daily and bring you to the cornerstone of the park - the Historic Bear Mountain Inn and Overlook Lodge. An amazing portfolio of nature's attractions await your arrival; including a large play field, children's playground, shaded picnic grove, fishing and boating docks, swimming pool, Trailside Zoo, Merry-Go-Round Pavilion, and countless spectacular hiking trails. An un-covered outdoor ice rink is open seasonally for skaters and the Perkins Memorial Tower sits stately atop Bear Mountain- boasting views of the NYS skyline! We will return to New York City in the evening.

This 5,000-plus-acre park not far outside New York City is a favorite spot for skiers and hikers in the greater New York and northern New Jersey areas. Bear Mountain itself is a 1,200-foot-tall peak that overlooks the Hudson River.

My fiancee and I fell instantly in love with Bear Mountain. Its just a short trip. No more than 2 hours. The buses are really nice and comfortable. Not crowded nor noisey. There was no wifi or charging port but that was fine since it was a short trip. It gets pretty chilly on the bus so bring a bkankie or jacket

It was a great experience. I went by myself first time. The bus is almost 2h ride it was freezing little bit just take a lightweight jacket or smal blanket. If you are planning to spend the day there after hiking bring your food and enjoy the area by the river where it's full and family friendly. It took me 2h to climb the mountain and come back but it’s worth it for the amazing view. Totally recommended

If doing a day trip, make sure to take the 8:45am bus so have enough time for a hike. And bus leaves to the minute on time so don't miss it!

Bear Mountain was a beautiful place and it was fun. WARNING: THE SHORTLINE BUS WAS FREEZING. It was so cold that my legs and my friends' hands went numb. I was SO uncomfortable during the commute -- make sure you bring a jacket, even if it's 85 degrees out, it'll feel like it's 50 degrees in the bus.

Bear Mountain is a fun place to visit. Ordering the tickets through TakeTours was easy. You need to pick up the tickets at the booth when you arrive at Port Authority. Overall, it is fun and easy. I planned on going again to enjoy nature.

Great trip and experience. The bus ride up and back was good. The bus wasn't fully packed and minimal stops on the way up to Bear Mt. the way back however had more stops and pick-ups with resulted in a little over 2hr ride. Bear mountain is great. One of the major hiking terrain routes is man-made so it's pretty clear of debris. You follow rock steps up to the tower. This took us about 2.5 hrs up and back at a walking pace. Overall we had fun and would take the trip again.

Loved this trip. It was easy navigating around - getting on the bus and getting back. Bear mountain is a beautiful place. I highly recommend renting the boat for $10 for the hour. I will definitely book this again in the fall.
