After guests meet at the specified departure point, we will begin this tour. Over the course of the day, we will experience the timeless beauty of Southern Louisiana in a custom-built boat as we travel through Barataria Preserve in the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park. Local guides will reveal the mysteries of the swamps, bayous, and the Cajun "joie de vivre." We will spot the nesting grounds of alligators, egrets, raccoons, nutria, and many species of snakes. Some wildlife is more numerous during warmer months of the year. We will hear the unfortunate story of why the wetlands are disappearing due to coastal erosion, as well as the efforts to correct the damage it has done and restore this vital habitat. Afterwards, we will return to the departure point to end the tour. Please see "Departure and Return" for more detailed information regarding pickup and drop-off times and locations.
The city known as the "Big Easy" is most famous for its colorful and exciting Mardi Gras celebration. Visitors will marvel at its distinctive Cajun culture and cuisine that is unlike anything else in the world.
Named for the famous pirate who stalked the waters around New Orleans, this park is a wetlands preserve just outside of New Orleans. The Barataria Preserve features many trails and canoe tours through swamps, marshes, and hardwood forests.
