  • We've chosen high quality backpacker accommodation in a variety of hostels, wilderness lodges, cabins and historic hotels. Quad-share accommodation is included with your tour. You can choose to upgrade your accommodation to a single or twin/double private room (subject to availability).
  • Please note that at some destinations your private room will include an ensuite bathroom and some it won't.

Day 1 Christchurch - Picton(273 km)

Nau mai, haere mai! Welcome to New Zealand! Our journey begins this morning in Christchurch, where we will take a scenic drive through Lewis Pass, headed for the coastal town of Picton. When we arrive in the early evening, we will have some time to go for a walk around and get our bearings or relax at the spa.

Picton is possibly New Zealand’s most pretty seaside town with its relaxed island feel, secluded bays and crystal clear waters. The waterfront has one of the world’s best water views known for its ever changing colours and its marinas are a stunning testament to the importance of boats to this charming waterside village.

Day 2 Picton - Abel Tasman(271 km)

We will spend the morning exploring the stunning Marlborough Sounds on foot or on bicycles. At midday, we will drive through the famous Marlborough wine region and visit the wine cellar of a local vineyard to sample some authentic New Zealand wine. Then, we will head to the spectacular Abel Tasman National Park. In the evening, we will enjoy some delicious seafood and BBQ at our campsite accommodation.

Day 3 Abel Tasman National Park

We will be able to spend free time exploring the incredible Abel Tasman National Park, a stunning coastal region that features some of New Zealand's best beaches. We will also be able to take part in some fun optional activities at our own expense, like sailing or kayaking. In the evening, we can use the BBQ equipment in the park to cook a delicious dinner.

Abel Tasman is New Zealand's smallest national park, but what it lacks in size it makes up for with golden sandy beaches, dramatic outcrops, and pristine estuaries. Visitors can explore the natural beauty of the park, enjoy recreational activities, and much more.

Day 4 Abel Tasman - Hanmer Springs(214 km)

Today, we will travel through beautiful scenery into Kahurangi and Nelson National Parks, where we will stop to enjoy a picnic lunch before heading to Hanmer Springs. We will have the afternoon free to enjoy this alpine setting, relaxing in thermal pools while surrounded by mountains and forests. We will enjoy a group dinner in the evening.

Located in the northwest corner of New Zealand's South Island, Kahurangi is New Zealand's second largest national park. In places it is an untracked wilderness, elsewhere a wonderful network of tracks lets you explore wild rivers, high plateaux and alpine herbfields, and coastal forests.

The resort town of Hanmer Springs is an attractive year-round holiday destination for adventure, relaxation and indulgence. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and towering forests, this charming town has a main street filled with boutique shops, cafes and eateries.

Day 5 Hanmer Springs - Kaikoura - Christchurch(223 km)

Today, we will head for the coastal village of Kaikoura, where we will explore the area's natural wonders. We can embark on dolphin and whale watching cruises at our own expense, among other activities. In the afternoon, we will make our way to the city of Christchurch.

Kaikoura offers activities all year round. By sea, visitors can swim with dolphins, whale watch or enjoy kayaking and surfing. By land, guests can enjoy wining and dining, shopping, bird watching, spas, hiking, and festivals. The possibilities are endless.

    The dusky dolphins inhabit the coastal waters off Kaikoura all year round, making Kaikoura a unique place in the world where wild dolphins can be encountered every day, weather permitting. The opportunity to go out and watch the dusky dolphins from our boats gives visitors wonderful views of these spectacular and acrobatic dolphins.

Booking changes
A fee may be charged for any revision or alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed. Name changes or corrections may be treated as a cancellation and cancellation fees will apply. A change of tour date or tour itinerary may be treated as a cancellation, and normal cancellation fees will apply. Please be noted that we do not allow departure change 48 hours before departure.

Cancellations and Cancellation Fees
Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings. Therefore, cancellation penalties and or fees will apply. Time of cancellation will be determined when notice is received and confirmed by our office. Notice of cancellation must be made directly to TakeTours by email or through web mail at Contact Us .

NOTE: We cannot grant any refunds more than 30 days after completion of tour.

Itinerary Variations
We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.

Tour Cancellation:
We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, TakeTours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour.. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.
