Explore the beauty of Plaka and navigate your way through the crossroads of history in Monastiraki Square. Journey on to the Tower of the Winds and marvel at the wonders of a Golden Age. Seek and you shall find the answers that you need along the cobbled slabs of Apostolou Pavlou Street and the grand setting of Syntagma Square.

  • Athens, GREECE

    Athens, GREECE
One of the oldest cities in the world, Athenian history spans more than three millennia, and served as the foundation for much of modern Western culture. Ancient monuments like the Parthenon have been standing for thousands of years.

    Areopagus

A prominent rock outcropping located northwest of the Acropolis. In classical times, it functioned as the court for trying deliberate homicide, wounding and religious matters, as well as cases involving arson or olive trees. Ares was supposed to have been tried here by the gods for the murder of Poseidon's son Halirrhothius (a typical example of an aetiological myth).

    Plaka

The old historical neighborhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. Plaka is built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens. It is known as the "Neighborhood of the Gods" due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites.

    Monastiraki Square

A flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, specialty stores, and is a major tourist attraction in Athens and Attica for bargain shopping.

    Tower of the Winds

An octagonal Pentelic marble clocktower in the Roman Agora in Athens. It is considered the world's first meteorological station. The structure features a combination of sundials, a water clock, and a wind vane.

    Apostolou Pavlou Street

Dionysiou Areopagitou Street is a pedestrianized street, adjacent to the south slope of the Acropolis. It starts from Amalias Avenue near the Arch of Hadrian and ends near Philopappos Hill where it continues as Apostolou Pavlou Street, the rest of the pedestrian zone which goes around the archaeological site of the Acropolis and the Agora.

    Syntagma Square

Named for the Greek Constitution, Syntagma Square is Athens' central public square, located in front of the Old Royal Palace, which currently houses the Greek Parliament. It was constructed in the 19th century.
