Day 1 Upper Antelope Canyon

The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdeztwazi or "Spiral Rock Arches." Many years ago, herds of Pronghorn Antelope roamed freely in and around the canyon, which explains the English name. This incredible canyon has been created over many thousands of years by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into forms, textures, and shapes which we observe today.

Tours depart daily on the top of the hour with the first tour starting at 8:45 am until 4:00 pm MST. (Doors open at 8:00 am and close at 4:00 pm.)

The most popular slot canyon in the American Southwest is Antelope Canyon, a sandstone formation formed by flood and rainwater. The canyon is located on a Navajo reservation, and has been made a Navajo Tribal Park.

  • Always Visit
Upper Antelope Canyon is called "the place where water runs through rocks" by the Navajo. Its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. Light beams start to peek into the canyon March 20 and disappear October 7 each year.
    Opening Hours: Mar 15 - Nov 1 8:00am - 5:00pm, Nov 2 - Mar 14 9:00am - 3:00pm
