Day 1: San Jose - Arenal Volcano (162 km)

Today we will be picked up by your tour guide at the airport. After a short walk to the vehicle he will provide you with the information package which contains your travel itinerary in detail. Then we will start traveling north to the Arenal Volcano. During the 2.5 hour drive you will receive an introduction to Costa Rica for your trip from tour guide. Tonight you can have dinner at the hotel and then go to explore the village of La Fortuna (if time permits) where you may find many kind of dining options and some nightlife too. Overnight in the area of Arenal Volcano.

    This active stratovolcano in Costa Rica has an elevation of 5,358 feet. It looms over the small town of Las Fortuna below. There are many trails that traverse the slopes, leading all the way to the summit.

Day 2: Arenal Volcano National Park - La Fortuna (185 km)

We will start the day hiking across the Arenal Hanging Bridges where you can admire the jungle not only from the ground but also from the treetops. After your adventure on the hanging bridges, you will head to the La Fortuna Waterfall. There is time to put your bathing suit on if you want cool off under the waterfall. When you reach the bottom, you'll have an opportunity to swim in one of the largest cool waters in the whole area. After that, we will try a delicious Costa Rican "casado" at a local restaurant. Then we will continue to the Arenal Volcano National Park where your guide will take you on a nature walk. We will head through the jungle, hiking through easy trails that skirt around the base of the Arenal Volcano and learn about the volcanic activity in the area.

    Arenal Hanging Bridges

    The Arenal Hanging Bridges (Mistico Park) are a series of suspension bridges in the Volcan Arenal National Park area, offering views of Lake Arenal and Volcan Arenal. The bridges form part of a 2-mile (3 kilometre) self-guided interpretive trail through a private rainforest reserve.

    La Fortuna Waterfall

    La Fortuna Waterfall is in central Costa Rica, in the Alajuela Province. The waterfall drops about 70−75 meters and is about 5.5 km outside of the town of La Fortuna, near the Arenal Volcano. Visitors could swim in the stream and small rapids below the falls.

Day 3: Arenal Volcano - Tambor Beach (213 km)

In this morning we will be transferred to the beautiful area of the Nicoya Peninsula. The drive takes you through farmlands and small forests as you go down to the coast. Once you reach the beach, a ferry boat will be waiting to take you to the peninsula on a one hour navigation. We will have a chance to see dolphins, turtles, stingrays and other marine wildlife along the way. In the afternoon we will arrive at the hotel and enjoy our free time in the beach and explore the hotel property where you will find horses, golf course and other breathtaking views. Overnight at Tambor Beach.

Day 4: Gulf of Nicoya (1716 km)

Early in the morning we will board a boat in Bahia Ballena. During the day you will enjoy the relaxing cruise where you can watch sea birds while heading to the Curu Nature Reserve. We will land on the Beach of the Curu Reserve where you will be able to explore trails that are surrounded by the dense rainforest. Afterwards we will board the boat again and pass a shipwreck and a rock archway. After arrival in the Tortuga Island, we can snorkel and also enjoy a stroll along the white sand beaches as well as other water activities. After that, we will move on to the Pochote Mangrove. The boat will take us back to hotel after the short mangrove safari. Overnight at Tambor Beach.

    The Curu National Wildlife Refuge is a privately owned and managed nature preserve offering visitors some of the best eco-tourism experiences in the country. There is a large variety of wild animals, including monkeys which live in a natural habitat that coexists with the plantations and the cattle farms.

Day 5: Nicoya Peninsula - San Jose (138 km)

After breakfast in the hotel, we will return back to San Jose city. The afternoon is free for us to explore the city and visit museums, historical buildings or the central avenue, a place where you can interact with locals. Overnight in downtown San Jose.

  • Booking changes
    A fee may be charged for any revision or alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed. Name changes or corrections may be treated as a cancellation and cancellation fees will apply. A change of tour date or tour itinerary may be treated as a cancellation, and normal cancellation fees will apply.
  • Cancellations and Cancellation Fees
    Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings. Therefore, cancellation penalties and or fees will apply. Time of cancellation will be determined when notice is received and confirmed by our office. Notice of cancellation must be made directly to Taketours by email or through web mail at Contact Take tours for details.
  • Cancellation penalties per person (Notification day and departure day are not counted)
    Up to 30 days prior to departure - 100% of total purchase amount.
    31-45 days prior to departure - 50% of total purchase amount.
    46-60 days prior to departure - No penalty.
    Day of departure or no show - 100% per person.
    Unused features are non-refundable. No shows forfeit entire payment.
    Trips require a minimum number of participants to avoid cancellation. We reserve the right to cancel a schedule trip to fully refund affected customers although tour companies will make every efforts to maintain the normal operation.
    The refund amount will be credited directly to your TakeTours wallet as credits for future use. Or the refund can also be forwarded directly to your credit card with a 6% handling fee.
    NOTE: We cannot grant any refunds more than 30 days after completion of tour.
  • Itinerary Variations
    We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation:
    We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, Taketours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour.. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.
    We are not responsible for any other travel arrangements affected due to our cancellations.
