Last year Phillip Island Nature Parks underwent significant works to upgrade their Penguins Plus premium viewing platform and an exciting new development from the upgrade is the construction of the world's first Underground covered viewing facility (which the above picture captures perfectly). Protected from the elements, it is the perfect spot to watch the penguins close-up at eye-level. For everyone's comfort and safety, maximum capacity for this option is 70 people. A dedicated Ranger is on-hand to provide information and answer any questions. A television screen will let you know once penguins have started to arrive on the beach. As a bonus, Underground Penguins Plus also has access to Penguins Plus (the platform directly above Underground).

Guests will enjoy extended time at The Nobbies for dinner (own expense) and enjoy the beautiful coastline scenery looking out onto Bass Strait. The wonderful boardwalk also allows guests to spot penguins' burrows and see if any are home!

  • Depart 1:15pm / Return 9:00pm - 11:30pm approx.

  • VIP Skybox Tour with access to Underground Viewing: Beachfront elevated enclosed viewing from the Ranger's box. Limited to 10 guests.
  • Guided Ranger Tour with seperate viewing platform: Dedicated Ranger Guide with viewing from a separate platform. Limited to 10 guests.
  • Penguins Plus with VIP tour: To enable guests to really experience the best viewing Penguins Plus has to offer, this tour no longer includes snacks in the VIP skybox; however guests will now get to spend time in the Underground Viewing area after leaving the VIP area.
  • If you would like to eat lunch prior to joining our tour, there are top eateries we highly recommend conveniently located behind our Federation Square departure point.
  • Please bring warm, waterproof clothing as nights can be cold on the island in any season. The Penguin Parade is a natural phenomenon taking place in the open outdoors.
